Caminito del Rey

Until very recently, this route of almost 8 kilometers in the area of Malaga was considered one of the most dangerous in the world.
The route has recently been renovated to make it safer and more accessible. A visitor’s centre will be open soon.

The route runs through the landscapes of the Paraje Natural Desfiladero de los Gaitanes, where the River Guadalhorce passes and which reaches a depth of 700 metres.

The unique experience of walking on footbridges built in gorges at more than 100 metres height is not suitable for people with vertigo. However, those who dare to walk this path between vertical walls built on the same gorge will be able to contemplate views that will not leave you indifferent.

The path, has its origin in a humble path for workers of the reservoirs in the area. At the beginning of the 20th century, a water channel was built from the northern reservoirs to El Chorro to take advantage of the difference in level at a hydroelectric power station. All of this was associated with a maintenance path for this channel, known as the “Caminito del Rey” because the work was promoted and inaugurated by King Alfonso XIII.

Today, it represents a great opportunity to live a unique experience and contemplate the fauna and flora of the Paraje Natural del Desfiladero de los Gaitanes from a privileged position.
